Friends of Royaneh is a revamped iteration of what once was known as the Royaneh Alumni Association. The Alumni Association was started in the Fall of 1991 with the inaugural member’s meeting taking place in February of 1992.
Following the success of the 100th anniversary of Camp Royaneh, the thought was discussed to bring back the Royaneh Alumni Association. Over 600 people had participated in the Gala and at the Camp celebration, so we knew people had a deep and personal connection to camp. How do we connect everyone, all year long, and not just at milestone celebrations?
From that thought, some members of the Royaneh 100th committee formed the Friends of Royaneh launch committee.
Starting in the Fall of 2025 the Launch Committee members started working on a logo, bylaws, and reaching out to others with close ties to Camp Royaneh. We were on to something.
In March of 2026 our first members officially joined.
When our Launch Committee was brainstorming ideas, they wanted an image that represented generations of camp.
The Thunderbird has been the camp mascot for 70+ years now and rather than create an entirely new Thunderbird image, it was decided to use one of Royaneh’s most recognizable Thunderbirds. If you’ve been to a campfire in the past 30 years, you’ve sat in front of this iteration.
The three redwood trees represent ‘three cheers’ as heard from the official camp song “Royaneh For Ever” created by Marvin Landfield in 1927! Also the redwood is significant throughout camp – in C.O.P.E., various towering giants throughout, and the remnants of the property’s logging past.
The background of a gradient yellow/orange represents the sun. This plays homage to our camp saying of “Have Fun in the Sun, at Camp Royaneh”. This saying was made popular by Nature Director Uncle Ed Dike.
