The Annual Renewal (also known as “rechartering”) is the process that keeps your unit, scouts, and leaders officially registered and active for the coming year. It confirms youth and adult memberships, verifies required training, and maintains your relationship with your chartered organization. While the system itself is managed at the council and national levels, Meridian is here to help you navigate it locally and avoid unnecessary delays.
Renewals should be routine — not stressful. Most issues arise from incomplete Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT, previously known as Youth Protection Training, or YPT), or from unresponsive adult leaders, or last-minute corrections that could have been prevented earlier in the year. Starting early and reviewing your roster carefully will prevent most problems.
A 30-minute review now can save MANY hours later!
Recharter slowdowns usually come from:
Avoiding these issues early will keep your unit out of renewal crisis.
If your unit is approaching its expiration date and renewal is incomplete, contact your Meridian commissioner immediately. Do not wait for the system to lock you out. Early communication allows us to coordinate with council staff and national, if necessary. It helps prevent registration lapses that affect youth participation. Once you cross the expiration date, it takes significantly more effort on your part, district’s, council’s, and national’s to bring your unit back online.
If you encounter technical issues, roster discrepancies, or approval bottlenecks, reach out early. We can help clarify next steps, connect you with the right council contact, and prevent small issues from becoming major disruptions.
Our goal is simple: keep your unit active, uninterrupted, and focused on your Scouting programs, not administrative minutiae.
